The famous Turkish seismologist Naci Gorur, who predicted the earthquake on February 6, warned about the risk of new powerful earthquakes in Cyprus and in the Turkish provinces of Bingol and Adana.
In April 2022 Turkish seismologist Prof. Naci Gorur, a member of the Turkish Academy of Sciences, predicted with an accuracy of a few kilometers the epicenter of the earthquake that shook the southeast of Turkey on February 6.
According to the scientist, when an earthquake occurs, energy is released at one end of a fault, some of the energy is transferred to the other end. "After the earthquakes in Kahramanmaras, we warned about the possibility of earthquakes in Adana and Hatay. In Bingöl province, with the exception of the settlements of Karliova and Göynük, the energy of the East Anatolian fault has already been released. I am expecting an earthquake in Adana and if it happens a big part of the energy will be released and the fault will 'fall silent,'" Gorur said to TGRT.
He reiterated the threat of an earthquake looming over Istanbul in the coming years and called for measures to be taken in preparation for it.
"The earthquakes in Kahramanmaras on February 6 could have an impact on Adana, Bingol and Cyprus - we need to warn about earthquakes there, if they occur, the East Anatolian Fault will 'go to sleep,'" the scientist said.
