Armen Sarkissian could have been a good president in a normal and developed country by representing the country abroad, giving wise speeches and engaging investments. This is what political scientist Stepan Danielyan wrote on his Facebook page.
“Armen Sarkissian could have been a good president in a normal and developed country by representing the country abroad, giving wise speeches and engaging investments.
In other words, he could have served as a representative and ceremonial “body” in a country with a parliamentary system of governance.
However, unfortunately, we Armenians are living in another kind of country, and we have different expectations from that “body”. In the current conditions, we can only expect the “body” to be the guarantor of the Constitution. However, Armen Sarkissian has failed to accomplish his crucial mission and hasn’t become the guarantor of the Constitution. By signing the law on the Constitutional Court and not forwarding it to the Constitutional Court to determine compliance with the Constitution, Armen Sarkissian also became responsible for the crisis in the country as he finalized the delegitimization of the judiciary.
Now the members of the Constitutional Court will have the last word. Those who agree to retire early and become ‘parasites’ surviving at the expense of the state budget, will become untouchable. The choice is theirs,” he wrote.
